There have been a lot of negative comments via Netflix about Martha Marcy May Marlene lacking an “ending.” I feel the need to state my opinion on this. This is not a nice little Hollywood film, it is not tidy and the ends do not all get tied together. To me, a great film has always been a film that can tell us a story, a chapter in someones life. A groundbreaking moment. After this moment is over, the film is over. The person does not always live happily ever after, it is up to us to figure out what we believe comes next for the said character. If you don’t want to do the work, don’t watch the film. Lazy film goers.
